UNEMPLOYMENT

DEPUTATION TO PRIME MINISTER.

About 85 unemployed men waited on Mr P. Fraser, M.P., yesterday and discussed their situation. As a result of the discussion, a deputation representing the Unemployed in the city is to wait upon the Prime Minister at 10.45 a.m. to-morrow.

Disapproval of the methods by which money ®as being spent on unemployed relief was expressed by Mr E. A. Batt when speaking at the last meeting of the Eastern Suburbs League. The trouble, Mr Batt, was that the public could not see what was being done with the funds subscribed. The meeting strongly voiced the opinion that works on the loan schedule should be put in hand at once to assist the unemployed. Various delegates said that if the City Engineer were overloaded with work, ho should be given the further assistance of qualified engineers.
