ARCHITECTURAL SCHOLARSHIP.

JARVIS STUDENTSHIP WON BV NEW ZEALANDER. For the 6econd year in succession the Jarvis Studentship has been won by a New Zealander, says a London correspondent. Last year Mr E. W. Armstrong (Gisborne) was the successful architectural student. This year the coveted prize goes to Mr George Checkley (Akaroa). The first in the competition and the winner of the Romo Scholarship is Mr Stephen Welsh (Glasgow) who, along with Mr Checkley. is a student of the University of Liverpool. In the final nine, beside Mr Checkley, was another New Zealander, Mr Eric R. Arthur (Dunedin), who is also a student at Liverpool, and who has been in the final on two previous occasions. “A Lakeside Restaurant” was the subject of the preliminary test. The subject of the final was a “Home for a Royal Academy fronting a public square, forming the centre of a capital city.” Mr Checkley, who is twenty-seven years of age, served for three and a half years with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and afterwards was awarded an N.Z.E.F. Scholarship. In January of this year ho passed the Special War Examination of the Royal Institute of British Architects and became an Associate of the Institute.
