STABBING AFFRAY
ALLEGED CULPRIT IN HOSPITAL. rEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. GISBORNE, August 20. As the result of stabbing injuries two men were admitted to Cook Hospital on Saturday. The affair happened at Matawhero, where George Monkhouse, 63 years of age, a single man, Was living with William Campbell, a married man, about forty years of age. Campbell is manager 'of F. Hall’s station, and Monkhouse was staying till he got a job. At about 9 o’clock on Saturday night, it is alleged, Monkhouse returned home, and, after muttering for some time, sprang on Campbell, and stabbed the latter three times in the back, and then turned the knife, which had a blade two-and-a-half inches long, into his own abdomen. The wife went to her husband’s aid, and one child rushed outside screaming. A Chinese employee secured Monkhouse, and sent for the police. The injured men passed a satisfactory night.
