(By "Carbine.”) Sir James Carroll’s Tatau Tatau is in work again, and probably will be ready for racing by November. Macduff has made a good recovery from the mishap which prevented him from racing last week, and he will be. in commission again in a very little while. Golden Prince jumped well in his only start at Ricoarton, and as he pulled up sound he may be given a run at Ashburton next month. The New Zealand-bred Reputation, who was a brilliant galloper, and has been at the stud in Australia in later years, changed hands recently. Reputation has not been a stud success, but there is still a chance for him, as he is only eleven years old. Reputation was by Martian from Stepfelt. Two South Island youngsters who are well forward and are likely to be brought north for early juvenile engagements are the Nassau—Medley colt and the Sunny Lake—Equitas gelding in P. D. Jones’s stable. In the season just closed, The Welkin headed the sires list in Australia. His stock won .£40,374. This sum was earned by 39 competitors, who ' won 102 races. Of the ,£40,374. .£8750 was won by Gloaming in New Zealand. It is worth noting that Absurd’s stock won 2636,498 in New Zealand alone. GLADFUL’S GOOD RECORD. By winning the New Zealand Grand National Hurdle Race for the second year in succession Gladful has placed himself well in the limelight. Gladful was bred by the late Mr J. D. Ormond, a dozen years ago, and he formed one of the lots sent up to auction at the dispersal sale of the Karamu racers in the spring of 1917, when he fell to the hid of Mr W. R. Kemball at 510gns. The eon of Birkenhead and Gladisla has paid his way well, and his stake captures to date amount to .£4780. He made his debut on the turf at two years old. A reference to the Turf Register, however, shows that he was an absentee at three and four years old. When Gladful made a reappearance under silk at five years old the records reveal that it was as a hurdler in hack company, and it may be observed he failed to gain a situation in his initial bout over the battens. However, he wound up with four wins that season, and he won the Great Northern Hurdle Race at six years Old. Gladful has contested 79 races to date, and his record stands as follows:

An interesting display of trophies and championship certificates won during past years by the ' Kilbirnie Cricket Club is now on view in the window of Mr W. Laurie’s hairdressing and tobacconist saloon. Moxham avenue, Hatoitai. The exhibits indicate .that the Kilbirnie Club were the winners of both the Junior A and Junior B Championships during the season 1921-22, and also oarried off the dub championship. In the Reason 1920-21 they were successful in annexing the Third A Championship, and in 1919-20 the Third B honours fell to their lot. For two consecutive seasons, 1911-12 and 1912-13, the dub were holders of the challenge cup. This is indeed a fine record, and the dub hopes to be again well to tho fore in the approaching season.
