AMATEUR BILLIARDS

CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL. The final game of 500 np in tbs above championship was played at Billiards, Ltd., showrooms, last night before a large audience of ladies and gentlemen. The contestants were Harrison (representing Post and Telegraph Club) and Benge (representing Rangitikei Club, Feuding). Benge started off well and soon got in the lead and also gave his opponent very few chances to score, with the resu.t that he was very quickly over ICO points ahead. Ho maintained his advantage right through the game, and try as he could Harrison could not reduce the lead, and Benge ran to his 500 points when Harrison’s non was 293. Tho best breaks were: Benge, 47, 24, 21, 21, 20; Harrison, 25, 24, 22. At the conclusion of the game tho general manager of Ltd., presented the gold medal to Mr Benge, and to Mr Harrison the set of balls that had been used during the tournament. The handsome shield was presented to ilie representative of the club nominating the winner, and a oue and csm to Mr Shanks for making the highest break. On behalf of the Rangitikei Club, Mr AVilliams thanked Messrs Billiards, Ltd., for the hospitality they bad received, also for the splendid conditions provided m the way of table, etc. W. Ahotomey marked the game, and W. N. Tucker refereed.
