WATERSIDE BALLOT
SECOND POLL TO-DAY. Owing to the conflicting nature of two rules of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union the annual election last Friday proved somewhat abortive. One of the rules states that a candidate must secure an absolute majority to be elected, while another rule states that a candidate must poll 30 per cent, of the votes where one candidate is required to go hack to a second poll. In the cases of tljp election of the assistant-secretary and treasurer only one man in each instance has polled the requisite number of votes and goes to the second ballot, and no candidate has polled an absolute majority. It has now been arranged to adopt the preferential system of voting in a second poll which is to be held to-day to elect the assistant-secretary, treasurer, vice-president, disputes committee, scrutineers, stevedores’ representatives (No. 1 section), and workers’ representative, and Harbour Board representative. The new nominations are as follow: Assistant-Secretary, (one required)— E. E. Canham, L. Hennessey, J. O. Johnson, H..C. Nye, E. Rossiter, T. P. Williams, D. Wild. Treasurer (one required)—B.
