At the fortnightly meeting of the committee, Mr F. Meadowcroft presided over a good attendance. The news of the death of Mr J. S. Jamieson, who was for manv years president of the society, was received with much regret, and the com. mittee passed a motion expressing its sympathy with his widow and family. Since the previous meeting several cases of alleged cruelty had been reported to the inspector. In some cases horses had been attended to. and in one instance where horses had been ill-treated it had been necessary to nrosecute the offender, whp was heavily fined. It was reported that the collections for the fortnight totalled l .£8 17s 6d, which included one guinea each from Messrs R. B. Bigg, E Goodall, H. Buckleton. and J. B. Henry
