THORNDON CLUB 27th ANNUAL KLPORT. The following is taken from the 27th annual report of th© Tliorn-don Bowling Club to be held next week:— The directors have much pleasure in presenting the twenty-seventh annual report and balance-sheet, and in congratulating the members on the satisfactory financial position of the club. At the dose of the financial year, there was a credit balance in the bank of £9% 9s 7d. The sum of «£35 has been refunded to members who made advances to the club to pay off its overdraft in 1915, also JJ3O has been paid against advances for the purchase of the billiard table. Members will be pleased to' learn that the transactions in connection with the sale of the freehold green have been satisfactorily brought to a conclusion, leaving a balance to credit of .£SB 7a 7d. Also the club possess the freehold section occupied by the pavilion, totally unencumbered, which your directors consider a valuable asset to the club. The membership hens increased and promises shortly to reach the limit. The directors again congratulate the members on the very* satisfactory financial condition of the club and have every confidence that it has a bright future ahead. The season opened on October Bth, 1921, and play continued until May 4th, 1922. Mr G. Johnson (president), in -an appropriate speech, declared the green opened, after the first jack had been thrown by Mrs Johnson. A large number of members and visitors were present. • Improved lighting and heating of club room has been carried out, Application has been lodged for connection with the electric light system. It is anticipated that this be effected in the near future. GREkN COMMITTEES REPORT. As was foreshadowed in last year's report, the green fully came up to expectations, and the members and visitors expressed themselves as being highly pleased with the way the green played. Indeed, visitors taking part in tne centre champion pairs tournament were loud in their praises of the merits of the green and expressed themselves as being well satisfied in every respect. The green was closed on Saturday, May 4th, and the levels were taken and the topdressing and sowing v ere completed the following week, thanks to- the keenness and energy displayed by Mr Peters, the caretaker, who, :\U through the season, has taken a great pride rnd interest in the upkeep of the chib's property. The thanks of the club are again due to Messrs Sladden, Povitt, and Dyett, surveyors, for taking the levels gratuitously. Members can look forward with ©very confidence to having a really good greeii for next season's play, as the present indications show that the grasseeed has taken well, and the green never looked better at this time of the year. MATCH COMMITTEE REPORT. The match committee has much pleasure in submitting the following report on the past season’s operations:—Club championships: In th© singles contest some very fine play was witnessed, and the' winner, G. I>. Munro, thoroughly deserved liis success. The pairs games were keenly contested, Messrs I>. Y. Wilson and 3>r. C. F. Pattis being the winners. Considerable interest was taken in the rink competition, and the games wore stubbornly contested. The winning rink—Messrs Baker, Pattie, Staff and Wilson (skip)—are to be heartily congratulated on. their success. Centre tournament: The club’was represented at the centre tournament by the players who won the club championship. Club competitions: Keen interest was taken in the games played for the valuable club trophies. Mr G. D. Munro holds the Grace Cup as winner of the singles contest; Messrs B. A. Baker and F. J. White (skip), hold the Ross Thistles for the pairs contest, and Messrs Nimino, Chittey, White and ,I>ock (skip), are the holders of the Rose Badges for the rink contest. Pennant matches: The club was fairly successful in its section. Interclub matches: About twenty friendly games constituted the programme for the season, and some very enjoyable afternoons were spent in visiting different clubs, and in receiving and entertaining the visitors. The contests were thoroughly enjoyed. In conclusion, your committee desires to record its appreciation of the whole-hearted support accorded to it by the directors and members of the club generally, and trusts that the coming j**nson will be an oven more successful and enjoyable one than the past. GENERA E. The president (Mr G. Johnson), who is on a visit to the Old Country, was entertained by the members of the club at a social evening prior to his departure. He has consented to bo nominated again for the office of president of the club.
