QUESTION OF OVERTIME
DEFENCE OFFICIAL’S CLAIM. Dr A. K. Newman (Wellington East) gave notice yesterday to ask the Prime 31 mister whether the Government will permit Thomas John Collerton to claim for the overtime worked by him in the Defence Office between July, 1914, and May, 1919? The officer (stated the hon. member) did not make any claim for the overtime worked, for the sole reason that he considered he was a permanent publio servant, and would remain in the service long enough to earn his pension He has now been dismissed from the Publio Service with the usual three niopths’ notice. The overtime worked by this officer between July, 1914, and October, 1915, probably exceeded the ordinary office-hours, and he attended at the office on all days, including Sundays, Christmas Day, Good Friday, and other public holidays. It was the same from December, 1915, to December, 19)6, and, further, during the above periods he had not more than six lunch-hours.
