NGAIO’S OVERHAUL. The Anchor Company’© passenger steamer Ngaio arrived <p(t Wellington yesterday morning at 8.15 from Ne'lson, where sno has been undergoing an extensive overhaul. After disembarking her passengers the vessel went round to the patent slip, where she went up on the cradle for cleaning and painting. The berthing accommodation of the Ngaio has been increased. Cabin D. on deck, has now two berths, and the purser’s cabin now contains four berths. The white work is in zinox, a preparation wherein oxide of zinc is ground in refined linseed oil, by a special patented process by M. Petit, a French engineer. The new invention is non-poisonoue and odourless, graded from a dull flat to a high enamel gloss, the latter grade having been used on all the Ngaio's white work, tire result attained bearing out all that has been claimed “’for the new pigment. The upholstery, the polishing, and the paintwork giv® tho Ngaio the appearahee of a brand new vessel. Another—and a big improvement—one that is not “seen at a clance,” is the transforming of No. 2 hold into a coal bunker, with a new iron bulkhead, tho side pockets being done away with. This gives the Ngaio a bunker capacity of some 300 tons, and instead of coaling every other day. this unpleasant business is necessary only once a month—an important item for a passenger steamer. The structural alterations havo been done by the Anchor Foundry, the decorative work by Messrs Kincaid and Wition. and the staining and upholstering by Messrs G. Page and Son. The total result reflects tho highest credit on all concerned. The officers of the Ngaio are as follow Captain W. A. . WUdman; first officer, Mr E. H. Foyder; second, Mr M. Furneaux; chief engineer, Mr C. Barltrop; second, Mr W. Skminerville; third, Mr J. Weir; wireless operator, Mr Taylor; chief steward, Mr Jackson; stewardess, Miss Btucc.
