Tho president of the ■ ictoria Bowling Club (Councillor C. J. B. Norwood) lasi night paid a tribute to the late Councillor S. n. Underwood, in .whose death, ho aaid, bowling bad sustained a very severe loss. Councillor Underwood, he said-, was a most unselfish bowler, and he and his wife were never so happy a-s when doing something to make other bowlers or visitors comfortable. Ihe members of the club stood for a moment in respect for the deceased ’honorary secretary to the Wellington Bowling Centre. H.M.S. New Zealand’s Maori tiki, which was presented to the ship nine years ago by Mr C. J. Sloman, of Christchurch, is to be returned to New Zealand and deposited in the Canterbury Museum, in accordance with the wishes of tho donor. A report'to this effect was r ade by the Canterbury College Board of Governors by its museum and library committee. The committee also recommended that the thanks of the board he accorded to the director of the Belgrade Museum for his gift to the Canterbury Museum of a collection of Serbian war medals. At a meeting of the executive of the Manawatu - Oroua Electric Power Board, held at Palmerston North, it wae decided that as two power boards had withdrawn from the proposal to raise a joint loan, the local board should make its own arrangements, and formal application has been made to the Minister for Finance for the authorisation of the board’s loan, which totals £300,000. The necessary steps will now bo taken to place the proposal before a poll of the ratepayers in tho various portions of the board’s district.
