YESTERDAY’S SITTING. POLICE AND BY-LAW CASES. Mr F K. Hunt, S.M.. presided at yesterday’s sitting of the Mac'istrote’s Court, when police and by-law cases wore heard. For drunkenness, Donald Mathoeon, with three previous convictions against him, was fined M or ordered to go to gaol for three days. For a similar offence A.rcshibald John Kirk, with one previous conviction, was fined" 10s. in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Oil a charge of committing a breach of his prohibition order, Kirk was fined 20s. IDLE AND DISORDERLY. Daniel Keane, charged with being an idle and disorderly person, was convict oil and ordered to come up for sentence when oalled upon. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. On a charge of attempting to commit suicide at Day’s Bay, Evelyn Yarker was, at the, request of Sub-Inspeotor McNamara, remanded until July 4th. "MAXIMUM PENALTY.” For stealing XI, tho property of Robert Allison, John Dolan was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. Sub-InspectoT McNamara submitted that accused was not in a fit state of health to be allowed at liberty, and he therefore asked that the maximum penalty. be inflicted. “I’M A PLUMBER.” Willie Wilson was charged with obtaining the sum of 3s 6d from James Staples by means of false pretences, (dating that he wus a plumber m business at Upper Hutt, and had lost his train ticket and wallet. The accused, when asked to plead, said that he had been under the influence of drink for some time oast and could not say whether he was guilty or not. Cliief-Detective Kemp asked for an adjournment tiff Tuly 13th, stating tliut there were other charges of a similar nature against the accused, "JU43 IN ARREARS." Charles Cheney, charged with failing to comply with the terms for a maintenance order for his wife and being L 1143 in arrears, was remanded to .appear at Christchurch to-morrow. BROKEN BY-LAWS. NUMEROUS DEFENDANTS. For allowing his chimney to catch fire, A. J. Cudby was fined 5s and costs. F. J. Fanning was fined 10s and costs for "having no tail-light on his motorcar. For allowing stock to wander, E. R. Pratt wae fined 5s and costs, and C. Harding was convicted and ordered to pay 7s costs. lor driving vehicles on the wrong 6ide of the road, E. R. Peterkin, E. S. Bayley, F. L. Cunlifie, A. V. Darnell, and W. M. Nunn were each fined 10s and For failing to have headlights on-his motor-car, A. J. Genge was fined 5s and costs. C. Leslie was fined 5s and costs for allowing his chimney to catch fire. For allowing stock to wander, John Adams was fined -Cl and costs, Oswald Disly 10s and costs, Ernest Hadley £‘i and costs, George Charles Hood 10s and costs, and Paul Olsen 406 and costs. James Loundo6, with two charges against him, was fined 10s and costs on the first count, and convicted and ordered to pay costs on the second. James Leech was lined 10s and costs for leaving a motor-oar unattended, and for failing to attend to his taxi lie was convicted and ordered to pay costs. For driving unlighted motor-ears, D. S. Smith was convicted and ordered to pay costs, and ,A. Laurie, junr., was fined £1 and costs. On a charge of driving at a dangerous .speed, Laurio was convicted and ordered to pay costs. George Stevenson, for charging an excessive taxi fare, was fined 40s and costs. For failure to attend drill, R. Gilpin was fined 40s and costs. CIVIL CASES. JUDGMENT - BY* DEFAULT.
