BROOKLYN CLUB. The Brooklyn Club held a five mile handicap for tho Cooke Cup 'at Hutt l’ark on Saturday. The course was a new two-lap one. There were twentyeight starters. The scratch men were required to concede very liberal handicaps, the limit, being 9min 15see. J. M. McKinlay was unfortunate enough to lose one of his shoes just after starting. He took off. the other shoe and ran one I«p in hare feet. He was liberally handicapped, but this ruined his chance. N. Willis (Bmm 45sec) won the race by twonty yards from S. Willis (9min 15sec), who beat A. Bruce (2min) easily by 100 yards. A. Barclay (ssec) was fast catching Bruce and finished fourth. D. Todd (scr) was fifth. Fastest time was secured by D. Todd, who. ran the course in 83min 12sec. A. Barclay was next, running the distance in 88min Hsee, and A. Bruce did it in 35min. Officials for the race were: —Starter, Mr A. D. Bayfield; timekeeper, Mr D. C. Todd; judges, Messrs A. D. Bayfield and J. O. Shorland; Uaudicapper, Mr L. R. Poutawera. Next week a combined run is being held from Island Bay. OLYMPIC HARRIERS. The Olympic Harriers held their weekly run at Jlarori on Saturday last. There was an attendance of forty-two members. The men were separated into two packs —the fast pack under C. Campbell and the slow pack under J. Beaglehole (deputy-captain). A good stiff trail was laid by IV. Scatchara and J. Wickens. Starting from the Methodist Church the trail lead up Baine street, then skirting the bottom of the hills to Karori Park, up to the top of the hill, circling round to the breakwind to the top of Mahari' road. The return trail led over the hills to South Karori road, branching around Karori Park to home again. About a quarter of a mile from home the slow pack halted and waited for the fast pack to come up. A run-in was hold, which resulted in G. Wood gaining first place, R. Christie second, and C. Ellison third. A combined club run will be held at Island Bay next Saturday. WELLINGTON. The Wellington Club held a very successful gathering on Saturday, when they were the guests of Mr and Mrs F Rowberry, Lyall Bay. The event for the day was the Palmer Cup, three-mile Sealed handicap. Twenty runners faced the starter. From the start, Ray Watson rushed to the front, closely followed by Morton, C. Rowberry, W. Watson, and Clapham, with the others well bunohed. This order was maintained for about two miles, when Clapham made a forward move, closely followed by .Morton, R. Watson, and R. Spence, but over the last quarter-mile Morton went to the front, and had a comfortable win-from Clapham, with R. Watson olose up third. On the adjustment of the handicap, it was found that O. Devereiix had wort the cup, with a handicap of four minutes Btart. A. Robinson (2miii) was second, and A. Clapham (45sec) third. Morton gained fastest time—lßmin 25sec. W. Watson was the only ex-winner of the cup to start, he being successful last year. /
