The announcement of the sudden death of Mr Richard Collins, solicitor, of Wellington, came as a shock, to his many friends in the city. The late Mr Collins, who was practically on the threshold of his career, is a son of Mr William R. Collins, of Abbeyfealc, County Limerick, Ireland, and a nephew of Air A. Coles, of Petone. He came out to New Zealand when a youth and later joined tho staff of Messrs McGrath and Willis, solicitors. At tho outbreak of the war he was among the first to offer his services, and was a member of the Samoan Contingent. On returning to the Dominion he again enlisted and went away with tho sth Reinforcement. On Gallipoli ho received a severe wound, which necessitated the amputation of an arm. ,Mr Collins was invalided to England, and when recovered from his wounds be came back to New Zealand and rejoined tho firm of Messrs McGrath and Willis. After passing the solicitor’s examination Mr Collins was, for a short period, on the staff of Messrs Chapman, Skerrett, Tripp and Blair, and left that firm to commence business on his own account in 1919, and was subsequently joined by Mr J. Rainey. His wounds gave him trouble and ho entered Trentham Military Hospital for treatment. It was there he met his wife. Miss Vera Dawson (Sister Dawson), who had also been on war service. There is one child of the union—an infant non. The late Mr Collins attended the football match on Saturday afternoon and was apparently in good health when ho reached' his home at Island Bay. After dinner Mrs Collins went to pav a .sick call, and on her return found her husband unconscious, from which condition he did not recover. Mr Collins, who had ft genial and liappv disposition, had many Friends, both in the legal profession and in other walks of life, and sincere sympathy will Ik* felt for Mrs Collins in her bereavement. Tho funeral, which will leave Ribhlo street. Island Bay, at 1 o’clock this afternoon, will be a semi-military one.
