SATURBAY’S SITTING POLICE PROSECUTIONS. At the Magistrate’s Court, on Salur. day Air F. K. Hunt. S.M., dealt with a short list of police cflcmlors. For drunkenness, JaU'z Goodor, with two previous convictions against him, was iined 20s, or ordered to go to gaol for three days IDLE AND DISORDERLY. Eileen Maugarefc Gladys Shore was Charged with being an idle and disorderly person. Chief Detective Kemp stated that ao cused was a married woman who had been deserted by her husband. She had been leading an immoral life end was a danger to the community. He therefore asked that the maximum penalty be inflicted. Accused was sentenced to three months* imprisonment. A FRIEND OF THD COOK. Charles Gallagher pleaded not guilty to a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond. Sub-Inspector MoNaniara said that on Thursday evening Gallagher had been found on private premises. Accused had been keeping company with the cook of the establishment, and had a perfect right to go to the kitchen. He had boen accosted by the police near the annexe and had volunteered no explanation of his presence. Had he done bo ho probably would not have been arrested. The information was dismissed. A REMITTANCE MAN. Alexander Reginald Hale Ellis pleaded guilty to five charges of having obtained money by means of valueless cheques. Chief-Detective Kemp submitted that Ellis wag a remittance man, who had been in New Zealand only a short while. Accused's father, a- well-known English business man, faad deposited in the Bank of New Zealand the sum of .£l5O, to be drawn by accused »n weekly instalments of <£3. In spite of a warning that hia account was already overdrawn Ellis had continued to issue cheques to the extent of £29. These cheques, however, were only temporarily dishonoured since the money could be drawn as weekly instalments fell due. Ellis, who is awaiting trial at Auckland on a charge of theft of jewellery, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on the first count and convicted and discharged on the other four.
