FOR THE BLIND

SUCCESSFUL STREET SALE. A street day was held yesterday to augment the fund being formed for the purpose of educating the blind to enable them to earn their own living. Mrs Phiilips-Turner was the organiser and the stall-holders were out very early with their wares to catch the financial worm. At the Post Office a flag collection was held by Mrs C. Richardson and an art union of pictures was in charge for tho day of Miss McKay. Able lieutenants who assisted Mrs PhiilipsTurner beforehand were Miss Sutton and Miss Dubbins, and their efforts were most successful, so that the full number of tickets were sold. Butts hacj a table, on which she demonstrated, writing by braille to anyone interested enough ‘ to inquire. Miss C. Butte has long been a good friend to several .blind people in Wellington and can tell of very pathetio cases among them. Some lovely flowers were for sale by Mrs D. T. Sterwaxt, whose sUBI was outside Kirks, while the depot was in Harcourt’s rooms, lent for the purposo. Tho Bank of New South Wales kindly undertook to receive and count the money as it came in, which saved tho stallholders a great deal of time and work. The total result to date was .£731.
