MAGISTRATE’S COURT
YESTERDAY’S SITTING. POLICE AND CIVIL BUSINESS. Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., heard a briet list of police cases in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. For insobriety two first offenders received the customary treatment. METHYLATED SPIRITS. Thomas Chapman, of whom Sub-Inspec-tor McNamara said he had been “drinking methylated spirits pretty heavily” of late, was fined 10b and ordered to pay the expenses on a second offence ol drunkenness. The man’s employer, however, had agreed to take the defendant hack and was waiting with his car outside the court. “Now keep off that stuff,” said the magistrate to the man as the latter left the dock; “it will kill you if you don’t.” A CASE REMANDED. On remand from Auckland, having only arrived the night previously, George Henry Bradley was arraigned on a charge of failing to comply with a maintenance order in favour of his two children, the arrears at January 9th being set down at <£"97 10s. The ease was remanded until this morning.

Clarence Thompson was ordered to pay Al 4la 6d to Florence Bird by instalments of Al per month.
