The New South Wale* section of tho Commonwealth Single Purpose Lvaguo for the abolition of the oompukorv clauses of the Federal and State Arbitration Act<3 will bo launched next week. In a manifesto issued to tho public the league claims that arbitration has broken down. Overlapping awards, conflicting decisions, farcical inquiries into the cost of Jiving, and open defiance of the court’s decisions have created’ a maze of industrial chaos. The league does not propose the abolition of the Arbitration Court, which will remain in the event of both parties agreeing to approach it.
TROUBLE WITH SHEARERS
DECISION OF GRAZIERS. SYDNEY, Juno 1. The Graziers’ Conference decided to combat any attempt on the part of the Australian Workers’ Union to create a strike in the shearing industry. Tho conference appointed a committee to consider waye and means if a hold-up were attempted. A denial was given to the shearers’ statement that some New South Wales sheds had started under the Queensland rates which the Australian Workers’ Union was seeking to enforce. It was reported that shearing was in full swing in West Australia, under the new Federal award rates.
TROUBLE THREATENED
FAILURE OF COAL CONFERENCE. SYDNEY. June 1. The conference between the coalmine owners and miners has proved abortive. The miners would not agree to any reduction in wages. The owners wall refer the claims of the coal industry to a special tribunal, but the miners threaten a serious industrial upheaval if the owners' claims are granted.

WILL NOT ACCEPT POWERS AWARD. (Received June 1, 10.30 p.m.) MKl.RfillkAik, June 1. Mr Barnes. General Secretary of that Australian Workers’ Union, referring to Mr Justice Powers’ award, said it was certain it would not he accepted by the 40,000 members of the Workers’ Union, and awards of this nature would drive every Labour organisation of Australia out of the Arbitration Court.
