THE GUT IN SALARIES

DAIRY MANACERS PROTEST FORMATION OF UNION AND IT3 EFFECT. “A RETROGRADE STEP.” PEA PRESS ASSOCIATION. HAMILTON, June 1. At tlie annual meeting of the New .Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association, a strong and unanimous protest was made against the attitude taken up by the Taranaki Employers’ Union, regarding the reduction of managers’ salaries, coutrary to the arrangement made at the conference of the executive bodies and the National Dairy Association, the Taranaki Employers’ Union, and the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association at Palmerston North in June.

In consequence the industry wyis confronted with the grave possibility of the formation of a registered industrial union of dairy factory managers, which would bring managers of longer and more valuable experience to the level of those of lesser capabilities, and so be a retrograde step regarding the quality of New Zealand dairy produce.

It was expected by some of the freezing works m Canterbury that there was a likelihood of slaughtermen not resuming work this morning as a pro. test against the reduction in the cost of living" bonus. As far as can be ascertained general trouble has not eventuated, though several companies had lpade arrangements for the disposal of stock in transit to the works in the event of the men deciding to cease work. A Gisborne Press Association telegram states that at a representative meeting of the Gisborne Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association a resolution was passed, emphatically protesting against the further operation of the Expenditure Adjustment Bill, which gives the Minister power to gazette another £ls in July next, which would inflict most senous, unjust hardship upon all classes of the P. and T. workers.
