An unusual case was heard by Mr W\ R McKean, S.M., at the Onehunga Police Court recently, when John James Boyd was charged with keeping lions contrary to the borough by-Laws. It was stated that Boyds had placed two lions in a cage at the Zoo without permission from the city authorities. He had taken the animals up to the Zoo for exercise. In evidence the defendant said that ho was making every effort to sdl the animals, and if unsuccessful, they would be destroyed. The magistrate inflicted a fine of .£l9 30s. Tho fine was at tho rate of 30s per day for thirteen days.
