A FAMOUS UNIVERSITY
PADUA’S SEVEN-HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received Mav 23, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 22. The University of Padua has celebrated its seven-hundredth anniversary. Padua has enjoyed great fame from her university, which was founded by the Emperor Frederick H. in 1221, though the fine Renaissance buildings date only from 1493 to 1552. There are Sow 200 teachers and over 1300 stuents. To it are attached cue of the •ldest botanical gardens in Europe, and a library (1629) of 200,000 volumes and 2500 MSS.
