“THE WORST EVER”
U.S.A. TARIFF BILL. AN OUTSPOKEN SENATOR. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received April 27, 8.10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, April 26. Senator Simmons, speaking in opposition to the Bill, said that if the question was put to the people, the indignation of the country would assume greater proportions than in the case of" the Payne-Aldrioh law. He added that in spite of the increases in agricultural products, farmers would pay live dollars in increased prices for every dollar gained through the tariff. He denounced it as the worst bill" that ever crossed the threshold of the Senate, and concluded 'by saying that while the Treasury, may gain 350,000,000 dollars in duties, these same duties would tax the people by billions.
