A Safe and Sound Investment Calculated to Pay Big Dividends A sound manufacturing proposition like this, with an important market ready and waiting for'its products, is one of the safest investments that can be obtained. New Zealand Glass Works Ltd. (A Company to incorporated under "The Companies Act, 1908.”) Points for the Investor The initial plant will be capable of producing 400 gross of hand-tyown bottles (quarts) a week, valued at £I,OOO. The cost being estimated at £587 7s. 2d., this leaves a weekly profit on one tank of £412 12s. lOd. Working for elerven months a year, and allowing for cost of overhaul during the idle month, 33 1-3 per oent. depreciation, overhead expenses, etc., the approximate nett yearly profit from one tank is £12,878 16s. Od. These figures are based on ACTUAL costs of March, 1922. Given favouiwble conditions, the oom* pteted works of four tank* should earn FOUR times this profit. . » ' During 1920, £125,163 worth of plain bottles (empty) were imported into New Zealand. The total cost of glassware imported during that yehT being £604,975. Thus showing the large and important market existing in this cetantry ready to absorb the products of the proposed Glass'Works. It must also be known that several classes of glassware are already dutiable, thus enhancing the prospects of a; local Glass Works. An important feature contributing <to the success of the Company is the fact that the leading Manufacturing Chemists and Brewers have. agreed to purchase their supplies of new bottles from the Company, conditions being equal or nearly equal, in preference to going outside the Dominion for supplies. It Is estimated that this will place the Company on a profitable basis of manufacturing in six months. The great' bulk of the labour- employed is paid on pieqo-work rates, thus assuring profitable working from the "beginning. ' \ The .importation of Crown, Sheet, and Common Window Glass amounted to £231,865 in 1920. It is proposed that the Company will undertake the manufacture -of this class of glass when the works are completed. Plain Glass Jars will also be within the seope of the Glass Works—£23,s23 worth of these were imported in 192 Q. ; ’'.’£,’4'’ %?, ’’iiC...' > In view of the acute shortage of glassware during the war period, it is reasonable to suppose that the Government will give favourable consideration to the fuestion of protection. The proposed site is adjacent to the main trunk line, providing facilities for the receiving of coal, and the despatch of finished products. ' A few minutes’ conversation with any manufacturer using glass bottles will reveal the fact that a glass works has been a necessity to the Dominion for - years. a - Capital £150,000 Divided into 150,000 Shares of £1 each Of which 96,000 Shares are offered to the public on the following terms:—s/- per Share on application; 5/- per share on allotment; and the balance in calls of not more than 2/6 per Share at intervals of not less than one month. Four thousand Shares, fully paid up, are to be allotted as shown in the Prospectus. Fifty thousand Shares are to be held in reserve for future issue if necessary, or may be issued in such manner or for sueh purpose as the Direotors of the Company may determine. PROVISIONAL DIRECTORS! (Who will hold ofifioe until the conclusion of the statutory meeting at which the permanent Directors will be appointed.) ' WILLIAM BAMAGE TATE, Christchurch, Glassworks Manager. JOHN ALEXANDER REDPATH, Junr., Christchurch, Merchant. ALEXANDER STORRIE DUNCAN, Christchurch, Company Manager. ' BANKERS : THE NATIONAL BANK OF NEW ZEALAND LTD., Christchurch. SOLICITORS: GARRICK, COWLISHAW, ALPERS, and NICHOLLS, Christchurch. INTERIM SECRETARY : F. W. DEIGHTON, F.O.A.A, 183 Cashel Street, Christchurch. CHIEF BROKERS: STEWART, BECKETT & (XX, 152 Hereford Street, Christchurch. THE OBJECTS. The Company is being formed for the purpose of securing a suitable site at Hornby, Christchurch, New Zealand, and erecting thereon suitable buildings and plant for the purpose of the manufacture of glassware of all descriptions, and to carry on the business of Glassware Manufacturers or any branch of the industry, and to market the products of such manufacture and business incidental thereto. MINIMUM SUBSCRIPTION. The minimum, subscription on which the Directors may proceed to allotment is 35,000 Shares/ representing a nominal value of thirty-five thousand pounds. A MOST SUITABLE SITE. The proposed site adjoins the railway at Hornby, near Christchuroh. and within reasonable distance there is an ALMOST INEXHAUSTIBLE SUPPLY OF THE NECESSARY RAW MATERIAL, which the Government Analyst’s report of February 6th, 1922, shows to be 98.26 Silica (the basis of Glass manufacture). This is almost the highest Silica value sand obtainable anywhere in the world. The value of this bountiful subply of raw material must not be underestimated, as it is the foundation for the successful and profitable operating of a Glass Works. i / : '*'? , 1 v" PLANT AND EQUIPMENTS. . 7, f . * : Arrangements' have been completed with Mr. W. RTTatef (wim.has had extensive experience in Glass manufacture in the United States and Australia) to eventually install four eomplete'Siemens Tanks and equipment, which will be capable of supplying practically all the needs of New Zealand for'general glassware, including:—Bottles, 'tumblers, jam jara, jugs, ordinary and improved syphons, fancy and ornamental glassware, glass for scientific purposes, sheet and plate glass, fireproof glassware for cooking utensils, etc. INITIAL ESTABLISHMENT. In order that dividends mayvbe earned immediately, it is proposed to commence operations with one Siemen’s Tank and Lehir, together with necessary equipment. It is estimated that this can be effected at a cost of £23,000. But it must be noted that this amount oovers the purtfiaae of 25 acres of land for the site of the complete factory, and also the ejection of offices, batch house, machine shop, and warehouse. This will place the works on a profit-earning footing in the least possible time, and enable the completion of the total wotka to go forward unhampered. Will the quality of the products of this Company compete satisfactorily with those of oversea manufacturers ? Yes, because tie plan* will be thoroughly modem, and will consist of the latest machines for the highest grade manufacturers. Among others, an Owen *8 Machine will be installed. This machine automatically turns out 175 glass artkdes per minute without any hand work, and is recognised the world owes for its fine work, which includes bottle making at every description. A fruitful source of information, nmrijnnMiiff the success awaiting the New Zealand Glass Works, is the perusal of the operations of the Australian Glass Manufacturers Ltd-, published m the “ Australian Investment Digest.” A REVIEW OF FIVE YEARS’ OPERATING OF TBS AUSTRALIAN GLASS MANUFACTURERS CO. LTD. £6^ls £6,463 £32/126 ‘ ‘ Over a period of five years ’ trading the AustraSan Glass Manufacturers Ltd. added the sum of £74/>4B to reserves. Of ibis amount £39,429 was capitalised in June, 1920, when one share for every seven held was giY£S.tft La addition to j ~ cerM’ dlVwemr'was paid for the year 192 L “The Company is certainly a good profit-earner, and as the demand in Australia for Glass Products is much in excess of the local supply, it seems highly probable that the earning power of the Company will oontinue to grow. . . During the past year (1921) over £27,600 was spent on land and buildings, white the past year’s outlay on plant and machinery after providing for depreciation, was over £137,000i “ , The Australian (Haas Manufacturers Ltd. operate undef the saihe conditions of labour, eta, *e thaw ' of New Zealand, thus, what h being done-in Australia can be done in this country. Will this New Zealand Glass Works be able to compete with oversea manufacturers? Yes, because in addition to being able to quote prices for its manufactures that are advantageous to local consumers, the invariable loss through breakages with oversea shipments is so serious that K virtually acts as a restrictive duty, and several oiaaseu of glassware are already dntiablh.
