Mr A- Lancaster presided, and those present included representatives of several bacon factories. ‘ ,
The chairman. remarked that, in order to overcome the marked fluctuating prices paid to farmers for pigs, steps should be taken to set up an organisation ’ through which all pigs would be pooled. Three out of four of the bacon-curing companies in the district were agreeable to some' such arrangement. Mr Bacon, of the Meat Packing Company, Baid that it was only by the producers coming together that they could hope to remove misunderstandings that had arisen in the past. Until the farmers got together and worked with the bacon-curing industry, unsatisfactory conditions would continue.
Mr O. Jerusalem said it would be useless approaching the suppliers until the association had a definite proposition to put forward. It. was decided to convene further meetings.
