NEW HOSPITALS
TAURANGA AND T.E PUKE
TAURANGA, April 15. . The Health Department has advised the Tauranga Hospital Board that the. minimum cost of the new maternity hospital at To Puke will be £BOOO. The Board has agreed to the proposal.l The department also wrote stating thaib it fully recognised that the pro vision of a new hospital at Tauranga was of urgent importance, but considered the present site too small, bearing in mind the possible future re-, quirements of Tauranga arid district. Before definitely deciding to build on the ground now available, the board should consider very carefully the possibility of procuring another and more suitable site at Tauranga. The site should be from twenty to twentyfive acres in extent. After discussion the board decided to invite tenders for 25 acres of land near Tauranga, suitable as a site for a hospital.
HOSPITAL FEES RAISED. The Tauranga Hospital Board has decided to raise the tees for patients in the hospital to nine shillings per day, with half fees for children under 12 years; also that ithe fees for maternity cases .'be not increased, but that the department- be asked whether it considers they should be raised.
