COMPLETED TO MATTERS. OPENING CEREMONY PROPOSED. m PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, April 16. Many years have passed since the first sod was turned in the StratfordMain Trunk railway, but now it is expected that the first Public Works train will wend its way to Matiere on Saturday, April 22nd. * Tho settlers have decided to celebrate the occasion in an appropriate manner and a large and enthusiastic meeting was held in the Matiere Hall on Wednesday night to consider ways and means. A Railway Celebration Committee was formed with Mr W. H. Amos as hon. secretary, and it was agreed to telegraph to the Minister asking if ho would proceed from Aria (where he will be on the day in question) to Matiere, in order to attend the opening function. It is proposed that the “first train” meet the 10.20 a.m. passenger train from Taumarunui to Okahukura, conveying passengers through the tunne: to Alatiere to attend the opening cere mony. It is also proposed to hold < banquet in the evening. *
