DONNYBROOK FAIR
AT NEWTOWN PARK. ST. PATRICK’S 'DAY RECALLED. The sequel to a lively little five' minutes in Newtown Park on St. Patrick’s Day was heard by Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., yesterday. Patrick Callaghan, for whom Air P. J. O’Regan appeared, was charged with, 1 assaulting David Thomas on March 18th last. “A young man named Thomas was dancing on the platform, attired in Irish costume, when the defendant
made his way np to the platform and threw Thomas off the stage,” wag SubInspector McNamara’s description of the affair.
Sergeant Donald Scott gave formal evidence of the assault.
Mr P. J. O’Regan, wlm appeared for the defendant, said that he had considered that the man was burlesquing the Irish nation in the manner of his drees and dancing. He had acted entirely off liis own bat, and regretted the action very much.
The magistrate imposed a fine of £l, and costs 20s.
