HOROWHENUA

GENERAL, jottings.

(Special) to “N.Z. Time*.”)

Feed is plentiful in the district, stock is looking well, while the supplies to the various factories have kept up remarkably well. The death ha© occurred at Levin of Mr Tom Clark, ©on of Mr W. M. Clark, aged 24 years. Great improvement© have been effected at the Otaki Native Church of recent date. The church, besides being nicely painted, ha© been otherwise improved, while at present the front fence, thanks to an energetic band of natives, is being repainted and otherwise improved. The cemetery is shortly to receive attention, while it is possible that tho two monuments opposite the church will be removed to the church grounds, Mere another monument is to b© erected to the memory of fallen soldiers. There were 22 days of rain in Otaki in March. The .total for the month was 7.04 inches. The heaviest day’s rain .was on tho 21st, when 1.68 inches fell. March of 1021 had 2.44 inches of rain, which fell on 15 day© of the month. The average for March forth© last 18 years was 2.88 inches. It will thus be seen that the month just past had an abnormally heavy rainfall. It is 15 years since we had such a wet March; in 1907 the month had a fall of 7.43 inches (which is even more than that of March, 1922, by a third of an inch). None of the intervening years had more than about four inches, and most of them much less.
