BROOKLYN METHODISTS
MUSICAL AND DEBATING SOCIETY. The fortnightly meeting of tho Brooklyn Methodist Musical, Literary and Debating Society was held on Monday evening, Mr W. H. Hindi© occujjying the chaiT. The chairman, in the course of a short address, stressed the advantages of debating societies, aud the valuable training gained thereat in public speaking. Tho evening was devoted to a mock Parliamentary electioh, there being four candidates—Miss A. Dancy, Messrs T. Coventry, A. McDowell and N. Seddon, junr. The candidates delivered interesting and instructive speeches, and a largo number of important subjects was well handled. A ballot was taken, the result of 4 * which placed the lady candidate, at the head *of the poll amidst great enthusiasm. At tlie elusion the chairman expressed a wish that all those present would endeavour to secure a still larger number of members, with a view to increasing the educative scope of the society.
