YESTERDAY'S SITTING. J POLICE PROSECUTIONS. The police court Bitting yesterday was not of long duration, and Hr F. K. Hunt, S.M., disposed of the following offenders:— For drunkenness two .first offending inebriates were dealt with in the usual manner, and Malcolm Bethune. a previous offender, was fined 10s, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonmei*. John Henry Johns was also fined 10s, in default forty-eieht hours' imprisonment, for a second offence of drunkenness. Joseph Devlin wa9 sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard labour for stealing goods the property of John D. H. DalzieL The case is reported elsewhere. BY-LAW BREACHES. VARIOUS OFFENDERS DEALT i WITH. A lengthy list of offenders against the city by-laws was quickly traversed by Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M. , , Robert Hardie was fined 5s and costs for allowing his chimney to catch fire. H. W. Breyley was fined 10s and costs for having no rear number on a motor- , cycle. _ For leaving a motor-car unattended, J. W. G. Brodie was fined 10s and costs. On a count of having; no tail light on a motor-car, J. W. Bright was ordered ■ to pay costs only# 7s i "We really hadn't sold the car," said a member of the firm of J. B. As a result of a trap set to catch motorists driving at an excessive speed ov.r the Kaiwarra bridge the following were fined Charles E.
