AUTOMOBILE CLUB
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the committee was held, on March 20th, 1922, at the office of t-lio secretary, .Mr H. JStott, 12, Panama street, Wellington. There were present:—Messrs C. ,M. Bankis, J 3. I/. Donne, T. Must, S. O. Nathan, J. J. Williaanson and H. W. Lloyd. In reply to a complaint from the rlitb, the manager of the Iramways Department wrote pointing Qift that- it was practically impassible to avoid the congestion of cars in the neighbourhood of the Hotel Cecil at certain hours oi the day, and he saw no prospect of o'oviating the trouble 'until improved track arc provided. —The letter was received.
The Upper Hutt Town Board wrote stating, in reply to the club's request that ytopis had been taken to amend the ‘by-law* referring to the speed of motor-ears through the town, which had been fixed at 15 miles per hour, the speed round cornel's to remain ais at present. Tire Minister for Public Works wrote stating that he was making inquiries with respect to ’when the bridges on the Akatu-uwa and Waikanae road would be finished, and would cojnimunicate the result as coon as poe&ible. in response to the club’s suggestion that members should take children for an o-utiing in their motor-care, the secretary of the Wellington Hospital Board wrote stating that there wo-uld be a certain number of children’ in the general koepited who could participate, also mentioning that the infantile paralysis and convalescent cases could be taken.—The committee decided to arrange an outing for the children’s 4Vard and the infantile paralysis cases, it being left in the hands of ’ the seerotary to arrange and organise the outing.
Tire Upper Hutt Town Board wrote asking if the club would be prepared to supply warning boards for erection in the neighbourhood of the local ft:hook —It was to supply two boards on condition they were put up by bho Town Board, and with the ttiiggestion that they are put from 50 to 100 yards on each aide of the approach to the school.
The New Zealand Automobile Union wrote - asking for co-operation in organising an hotel scheme where membora when touring would* receive the benefit of a reduced tariff. —After discussion, it was resolved to take no further action t in the matter, as members appeared to prefer to make their own hctcl arrangements when travelling, it being suggested that they would not receive the same courtesy and attention if. on a reduced tariff. The New* Zealand Automobile Union also wrote, enclosing a copy of a* letter from the Singapore Automobile Club, asking for the club’s views regarding the extension of privilegee to members who may be visiting in the Far East. '—lt was decided to acknowledge the letter and state that, visiting members from Singapore would receive all possible .attention when visiting New Zealand.
