RONA BAY TENNIS COURTS

MATTER TO BE GONE INTO. DESIRED BEFORE NEXT SEASON. . Rona Bay people feel deeply at not having acquired a. tennis court similar to their neighbours at Day’s Bay, and it had previously been suggested that the local residents at Eastbourne might take up the matter actively, with a view to making Rona Bay more popular.

At last night’s meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council, Councillor C. L. Marquis moved that the original committee, formed to deal with the matter be asked to go into the possibility of acquiring the tennis court and to go into the necessary costs, etc. He stated ffTaUTt was desirable to have the work done ae soon as possible, and preferably before the winter set in. The acting-manager, Mr B. R. Withy, stated that tho soil on the existing ground for the purpose was to he removal te tlie Hutt from where it was originally' procured. This would save a good deal of expense. He had already instituted inquiries, but had obtained nothing definite yet. A councillor: We can’t afford to experiment. Councillor H. McGill seconded the motion, and stated that lie Would certainly like to see the work under way before the next Eeasou. The motion was carried. Councillor Marquis stated that the section adjoining the existing one was owned by a lady from whom it might be possible to lease for several years. This would mean a great deal to the scheme. It was finally decided to refer this matter aleo to the existing committee.
