A BANKRUPT CHARGED
MASTERTON CASE. WERE PROPER’BOOKS KEPT? (Special to the “Times.”) MASTERTON, March 24. In the Supreme Court to-day, Ernest Robert Ward, carrier, was charged, on the information of Arthur D. Low, Deputy-Official Assignee, with having committed a breach, of the Bankruptcy Act. Four charges' were as follow: That Ward did, within three years before the commencement of his bankruptcy, fail to keep such books of accounts as are usual and proper in the business carried on by him, aiid as to sufficiently set forth his business transactions and disclose, his financial position ; that he did, between Mulch Ist and April 30th, 1921, contract a debt of £ll 16s Id to Allan and Co. without having had at the time any reasonable or probable expectations of being able to pay tile same as well as all his other debts. Two other charges nvere similar to No. 2. The debts in question were one contracted with Wilton and Jenkin for £l3 11s, and another with Andrews and Rolph for £29 Is 3d. Mr Burridge appeared for the prosecution, and Mr lli 'McKenzie for the accused. The cash' will continue tomorrow.
