THE ROTORUA LAKES
ARAWA TRIBE'S CLAIM GOVERNMENT AND NATIVES CONFER. AN AGREEMENT ARRIVED AT. An important conference was held at Parliament Buildings yesterday in connection with tho claims of tho A rail- a tribe to tho lakes of the Rotorua Hot Lakes district, and certain fishing and other rights. Sir F. D. Bell. Attornev-General, has been dealing with this subject for some considerable time past; and during his recent visit to the district he met various representative natives. At the conference yesterday the Prime Minister and Sir Francis Bell represented the Government and the representatives of the natives were tho Hon. A. T. Ngata, M.P., and Messrs F. Earle, K.C., and R. L. Levin.
It is understood that an agreement in regard to this long-standing disputo was arrived at, and a “New Zealand Times” reporter was informed that tho settlement was one that .should prove satisfactory to both falio Crown and the natives. Tho detailed terms of the settlement are not yot available for publication.
