STEAMER DIOGENES
LAUNCHED AT BELFAST. SYDNEY, March 12. Word has been received by the Sydney agents of the successful launching of the new Aberdeen Line steamer Diogenes at Belfast. , The vessel, which is a sister ship to the Sophocles, launched in September last year, was built hy Messrs Harland and Wolff, Ltd. Her principal dimensions are: —GOOft long, 63ft broad, 35ft 3in deep, with a gross tonnage of 12,300. ' . n Accommodation is provided for 130 first-class and 425 third-class passengers, with every degree of comfort which can bo obtained in modern steamship travelling. The first-class staterooms, dining salpfoi, lounge, library, and smolceroom are handsomely furnished in oak and mahogany. The equipment for handling the cargo includes* four derrick posts and 18 derricks, . suitable for dealing with weights from. 5 to 30 tons, and the winches are electrically driven throughout.
