STRANGE EPIDEMIC

THEFTS OF CASH BOXES. PER TRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, March 18. An epidemic of thefts of cash boxes prevails in Auckland. Recently solicitors’ offices in one of the largest Queen street buildings were visited. While twe of the staff of Mr J. F. Husking, barrister and solicitor, were at work in two separate rooms an intruder entered the main office, opened a small door in the counter, and removed a cash box containing about £36. It is stated the offices of two other solicitors were entered and thefts committed or the same day. On Thursday, a clerk employed by a well-known Auckland solitor delivered a cheque at the wrens office. Discovering his mistake, thf clerk went to tho office and asked foi (ts return. Tho lady clerk told him that while she was in the office the cash box containing the cheque, as we! as some money, had been stolen.
