CONSODIDATION OF SCHEDULE. i Australian aud N.Z. Cable Association. /"WASHINGTON, March 16. The Finance Committee of the Senate is considering the wool schedule in the Fordney Tariff Bill. Various witnesses stated! that an effort was being made to haue a duty of 15 cents a pound provided for low-grade wools, such as the South- American type. Senator Good Sing stated that the sheep Industry had suffered greatly, and the number of sheep had decreased from 64,000,000 to 33,000,000 in the last twenty years. Other witnesses pointed out that the Fordney Bill, as passed by the House of Representatives, provided that the rates should riot exceed 35 per cent, ad valorem, and asked that only specific rates should he included in the permanent tariff, ail duties being based on dean wool. Which- would work out at 83 cents a pound- for scoured wool, 22 cents for waned, and! 11 cents for greasy.
