MYSTERIOUS FIRES
THE DARLING POINT OUTBREAKS MAN AND WOAIAN ARRESTED. By Teleuranh. —Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received Alareh 14, 10.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Alareh 14. William Thomas, aged l 20, and EVangelina Reynolds, aged 38, were arrested on a charge of maliciously attempting tp set fire to a building at Darling Point. Both resided on the premises. The woman is the daughter of the occupier. Bail was fixed at £IOO.
Early last month tho, fire brigades and police in Sydney were baffled by a senes of mysterious outbreaks of fire at a house at Darling Point, Sydney. Fourteen distinct outbreaks occurred within 24 hours, and tlie police and firemen were compelled to remain "on the job” in readiness. The dwelling is a ramshackle place, set in a neglected garden. At the inquiry the verdict was that tho fires were maliciously caused by some unknown person spraying the furniture with some chemical liquid, which burst into flames after a short exposure to the atmosphere.
