WASHING A KNITTED SILK JUMPER

A little extra caie and trouble taken in the wa-shing of a, knitted silk jumper will preserve all its beautiful sheen, and, what is most important, its shape: Put sufficient tepid water in a handbasin and make a lather with shredded pure curd soap. Put the jumper. into this, squeeze tho soapy lather through it, and work it' about with the hands. But do not wring or twist. Give special attention to- the neck and any other parts likely to be rather soiled. If the jumper is very dirty, wring it carefully out of this water and repeat the process in another dean, soapy lather. Well rinse in tepid water, and then give a filial rinsing in cold; water till the jumper is quite free from soap. Finally, to a quart of dean cold water add a dessertspoonful of methylated spirit, and soak the jumper in this dor three or four minntee. This will ensure tho gloss. Squeeze out between soft towds to remove some of tho water. Pull into shape very carefully,' and tack it to a large clean towel. The stitches must be strong, enough to really support the jumper in position when the towel Ts pegged to the lino. In this wav the garment dries in perfect shape, and does not develop those ugly bulges that are seen when a jumper has been dried op a coat-hanger or a broomstick If the jumper is brilliantly coloured it is advisable to soak it before washing in a hath.of water to which a handful of salt hire been added.
