AN EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE. MISS HOEFT LOWERS WORLD’S RECORD. PETt PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, 14. Miss Pauline Hoeft created a world's record for 22U yards, by swimming tlio distance in 2min 53 2-3 sec. The previous record was held by Miss Fanny Durack, whose time was 2min 56sec. SCHOOLS' COMPETITIONS. The schools’ swimming competitions, being conducted by the Wellington Centre of the N.Z.A.S.A., are to be continued this week, as follows: — To-day (Wednesday, 15th), 25 yards and 75 yards (girls); 75 yards (boys). Thursday, 16th, 100 yards (girls); 100 yards (hoys). Friday, 17th, 150 yarle (boys). The first distances were swum at the recent carnival. The boy and girl obtaining the highest aggregate of points* over all distance's each receive a gold medal from the N.Z.A.S.A. These competitions are held annually by all centres throughout the Dominion, the ; object being to encourage swimming among the school children.

MISS HOEFT'S KECOBD. A request has been received by the secretary of the local centre of the New Zealand A.S.C. (Mr N. R. Stone) for information concerning the conditions under which Miss Hoeft recently broke the 440 yards record for lady swimmers. It is stated that records made by lady swimmers in races in which men are also competing cannot be . recognised. APPRECIATION. The control of the New Zealand swimming championships is the subject of a letter received by Mr N. R. Stone '(Wellington centre secretary) from the New Zealand Council secretary, as follows . —"j have to inform you (jhat a meeting of the council of the association passed a resolution expressing the,council's pleasure at the excellent manner m which the recent New Zealand championship meeting was conducted by your centre. I am. instructed to extend to you, as honorary secretary, and to the other officers and members of the centre and of local clubs associated with you in vour task, the council's warm congratulations on what is generally considered throughout the country to have been the most successful meeting from all points of view yet held." ST. MARK'S CHURCH SCHOOL. CERTIFICATE WINNERS.
