TOWN CLOCK: RAILWAY SERVICE. (Special to "N.Z. Times.”) AUCKLAND', February 7. ■When the Premier tvas last in Auckland, Mr E. S. Pegler, on 'behalf of the Manurewa Town Board, pressed the claims of the district for a Government subsidy for a town clock in the new Post Office, on the Great South road; further, that the seven minutes past five train (non-stop) now running from Auckland to Papatoetoe, run on to Papakura, and' return to the city, arriving there at a convenient time to allow or students attending classes or theatregoers attending amusements to arrive in the city at a convenient time. The Premier hae since granted these requests, and has replied, as follows: Re town clock: 'Tt is not the policy of the Postal Department to provide clocks, but in the special circumstances attending, the department is prepared to provide the mini of -£oo if the Town Board will find the balance of the amount required." Re 5.7 p.m. train on to Papatoetoe running on to Papakura.—"On conferring with the Acting-Minister for Railways, it has been decided to give this service a trial at an early date." Following on the erection of a new G.P.O. and public school, two handsome buildings, the Town Board has spent a sum of .£9OOO on the district roads.
