Perhaps the -best programme yet submitted by the committee of the National Swimming; Championships will be decided to-day, when, no fewer than six championship events will he contested. Eleven performers have entered for. the 880- yards national championship. They include L. Hill, of Canterbury, who won the mile championship on Saturday; R. V. Cunnold, of Auckland, :wiho won the 220 yards ■ championship and was. second in the 880 yards intermediate championship on Tuesday, and second in the mile championship on Saturday—one of the most promising-swimmers of the . Dominion. ' There are also eleven competitors for the 220 yards breast-stroke championship. There is a field of distinct quality in the 100 yards intermediate girls’ championship, which ■ will bring out those sterling performers Misses Page, Walrond, Simes and Mather, For the diving championship there are five competitors. The Nelson Shield, for the surf lifesaving championship of New Zealand, will be contested at Lyall Bay breakers to-morrow. Seven .teams have entered: Napier, New Brighton (2), Canterbury, Lyall Bay, IMaranui (2). - The land-drill oontest will take place at 10 a.m. and xthe water work at -2.30 p.m. The Gover-nor-General has intimated his intention to be present, if practicable. The manager of the Auckland swimming team, Mir Fernandez, lias been called home owing to serious, illness in his family. Mr H. Rowe ha 6 assumed the management of the team.
