WELCOME INNOVATION

CINEMATOGRAPH AT PORIRUA HOSPITAL. _ Under the toms of the will of the late Mr Brace, of Rangitikei, a sum of £SOO was bequeathed to the Porirua Mental Hospital, to be expended for the benefit of the patients. After consideration and consultation with the trustees, Dr Jeffreys, the medical superintendent, decided on the purchase of a complete cinematograph plant. Through the good offices of the New Zealand Picture Supplies, Ltd., an up-to-date Simplex machine' was obtained and tile first entertainment was given at the institution last evening. At its conclusion, the patients wre loud in their expressions of appreciation. It is intended to present suitable programmes at regular intervals, and it is felt that the installation of the apparatus will do much to relieve the monotony and brighten the lives of those in the institution.
