NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE
MARKETING AND DISTRIBUTION. PETITION TO PARLIAMENT FOR REFORM. In a petition to Parliament, presented yesterday by Mr W. H. Field, M.P., Mr W. Stuart Wilson, of Wellington, drew attention to the loss of huge eums of money by the very defective methods of the marketing and distribution of New Zealand’s primary products in the world’s markets. He stated that during his recent visit to England and other countries he saw striking proof that by reason of such marketing and the practice of certain buyers, New Zealand was suffering very seriously, and that there was urgent need for reform. He also received sufficient information to satisfy Parliament that no amount of propaganda or other procedure, unless sufficiently supported by finance,' could effect the necessary reforms. Pointing out that the prosperity of tho whole Dominion is indisputably dependent on a satisfactory solution of the difficulty, Mr Wilson urges a national effort on the part of the whole of' the people of New Zealand by which a sum of at least £750,000 a year (which would be a small amount per head of population) should be raised for the purpose set out in the petition, by a levy of 1 per cent, of the value of all produce exported, and by a corresponding levy on all persons in New Zealand whose prosperity is dependent on the efforts of the primary producers.
