A WILD DASH
RUNAWAY IN CITY. MAN KNOCKED^FROM A LADDER. A runaway horse attached to a cart was the cause of no little excitement in the city yesterday, and resulted in a man reoeiviag a disagreeable shaking by being knocked down from a ladder on which he was working. At about 11.30 a.m. it was observed that-a horse and cart had bolted from Upper Willis street, and it was feared that trouble, would be caused when horse and vehicle reached the busy part of the city. The crossing of Manners street was successfully negotiated, but near the Empress Picture Theatre the cart struck a ladder, and a man named Leonard Wells, thirty-five years of age, single, and residing at Arlington street, who was on the ladder working fell to the ground. He sustained cuts about the face and other injuries which necessitated his removal to the hospital, where he was admitted at 11.45. The .runaway horse was not checked until reaching Customhouse, quay. Wells, who is employed by Hanna and King, signwriters, was not very seriously injured.
