Alderman Brameton has issued write claiming £IO,OOO damages each for alleged libel from the ‘ ‘Smith’s Weekly** Publishing Company, the “Sydney Morning Herald'’ and the “Daily Telegraph,’’ in connection with allegations of corruption. An earlier message stated:— Persistent rumours, which have been circulating in civic circles for some time, bars been brought to. a head by a definite statement published that one of the aldermen of the City Council accepted £6O aa an instalment of £7OO to be paid as commission if a certain wood-block contract was engineered through the council.
