The Australian Press Association learns that the position in the Near East has been further complicated by Italian determination to -follow France’s attempt to negotiate separate peace with the KemaTists, to which end a mission has actually reached Angora from Rome. The diplomatic correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says: “We are entitled to the same measure of support we accorded France on tho Rhine and Italy in the Alps and tho Adriatic, The task of defending the Allies’ original 1 programme and British interests in the Near East will henceforth devolve upon our own shoulders. Franco and Italy, by actual prospective underbakings at Angora, have deprived Britain of their effective military collaboration and rendered impossible their mediation in the Turco-iGreek conflict.’’ FRANCE-HEMAL IST PACT AN OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION. (Received October 31, 9 p.m.) PARIS, October 30. The Franco-Kemali3t agreement is described officially as not a treaty dealing with questions affecting the Allies, but restoring good relations regarding Syria and Cilicia. It stipulates ■ for French exploitation of the 400-mile section of the Bagdad railway between Dozanti and Nissibin.
