At a meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council a councillor contended that the banks are at the back pf the Local Bodies Loans Act for purposes that are not favourable to tlie local bodies of the Dominion. The Eastbourne Borciuigh Council, on tlie suggestion, *of the Auckland Oity CounciiThas passed a resolution of protest against the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Bill; more especially the proposal that license fees for vehicles should he paid- into the Consolidated Fund. Mr J. O. Roving, director of a wellknown firm of water-power engineers, of London, was a passenger from Vancouver by the s.s. Mafcura. Mr Boving hopes to spend three or four weeks in New Zealand for the purpose of seeing tlie counter- and acquainting himself with the local conditions and eengineer’ng .ffossihjiiliea.
