A LIVELY SCENE .

A POLICEMAN ASSAULTED. There was a brief, but • lively, incident outside the Tramway Hotel, Newtown, shortly after 6 o’clock on Saturday evening, when a man named Bert MoKay was arrested for allegedly using obscene language, and for drunkenness; and another charge was made subsequently of resisting the police. . While Constable Edwards' was struggling with the prisoner someone struck the policeman on the back with a cane. A civilian who was siding with the man in blue was also assaulted. Constable Anderson, chauffeur of the motor police van, came on the scene and rendered timely assistance to his colleague. Two policemen then arrived to assist if necessary, but their services were nob required.
