OBITUARY

BISHOP NUViLL. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, October 39. | Bishop Nevill. ex-Primate of New Zea. 1 lamd, died at 7.30 o’clock this morning. He was consecrated Bishop of Dunedin in 1871, and retired in 1919. Born at Nottingham in 1837, the late bishop was a son of tbe late Jonathan Nevill. He graduated at Magdalen College and came to New Zealand in 1871. Shortly after this he became BishoD of Dunedin. It was mainly due to his efforts that the Selwyn Theological College was opened in 1885, and other institutions in which he was interested were St. Hilda's College and the Deaconesses’ Institute. He was a welhknoun writer of pampbdets and wnnons on theology, and had always interested himeelf in scientific subject. The late Bishop Nevill became Primate of New Zealand at a meeting of the General Synod held in Auckland at the beginning of 1904.
